KAHULUI–The Hawaii Nursery and Floriculture Association (HFNA) presents an hour-long video titled “Spirit of Hawaii Neotropica” on Maui cable television and online at www.akaku.org/watch (show below ).
This educational video consists of highlights from floral design presentations, workshops, nursery/farm tours, and a forum with flower and plant breeders and growers. These events were held at locations across the state in the fall of 2023. Professional floral designers, including Lois Hiranaga AIFD and Hitomi Gilliam AIFD, created beautiful floral designs using flowers, foliage, and plants grown in Hawaii.
In Hawai’i there are many family farms and nurseries that grow flowers and ornamental plants. They are an important part of Hawaii’s economy.
“Buy Local, Matter” is the motto of a campaign by the state of Hawai’i to encourage the purchase of products grown in Hawai’i. And buying locally grown flowers and plants also helps protect the environment by reducing imports that sometimes contain invasive species.
