McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tennessee – The Tennessee Air National Guard successfully held its 2024 Squadron Commander Course June 11-13, bringing together a diverse group of leaders and presenters to foster connections between the Wings and cultivate the next generation of leaders.
The course featured a wide range of presenters from Joint Force Headquarters, including the Air Deputy Adjutant General, Chief of Staff, Inspector General, Personnel Officer, Human Resources Officer (HRO) and many further. Each presenter brought valuable knowledge and experience, contributing to the overall course goal of building a cohesive leadership network within the Tennessee Air National Guard.
“The squadron commander course is a crucial component of our leadership development program,” said Col. Jay Jackson, JFHQ director of personnel. “It is designed to equip our future commanders with the skills and knowledge they need to lead effectively, while emphasizing the importance of building strong, interconnected relationships between our Wings.”
Throughout the course, participants participated in a variety of information sessions, panels and team-building activities. These activities not only provided hands-on leadership training, but also facilitated meaningful interactions and collaborations among attendees.
One of the highlights of the course was a panel discussion featuring senior leaders from different wings who shared their experiences and knowledge on effective command and leadership. This session underscored the importance of inter-wing communication and collaboration, which are essential to maintaining a unified and responsive force.
“Connecting with leaders from other Wings has been incredibly beneficial,” said Maj. Jacqueline Lewis, 118th Communications Squadron Commander. “It has given us a broader perspective on leadership challenges and opportunities, and we leave here with a stronger network and a renewed sense of purpose.”
At the conclusion of the course, participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from experienced leaders and connect with their peers. The Tennessee Air National Guard remains committed to investing in leadership development programs, such as the Squadron Commander Course, to ensure its leaders are prepared to meet the demands of their roles and lead their units with confidence and integrity.
“The success of our organization depends on the strength and ability of our leaders,” Jackson said. “By fostering connections and providing comprehensive training, we are laying the foundation for future success and ensuring the Tennessee Air National Guard remains a world-class force.”
The 2024 Squadron Commander Course has set a high standard for future leadership development initiatives, highlighting the Tennessee Air National Guard’s dedication to excellence and its commitment to developing the leaders of tomorrow.
