It’s almost “fair season” in Montana, which means carnival rides, petting zoos, rodeos, and fried food on a stick!
Fairs are a great way for friends and family to come out and have fun. Whether it’s seeing a concert, visiting all the sites and vendors, seeing what’s going on with 4-H, trying your luck to win a stuffed animal, or eating your favorite fair food.
When I was a kid, one of the best parts of summer was going to the local fair. At first it was with family and then as I got older I went with my friends. My “first” job was at our State Fair making ice cream cones. Let me tell you, you learn a lot of life lessons when you’re 14 years old and working with carnies.
While most states only have one “State Fair,” things are different here in Big Sky Country. He “Official” State Fair takes place in Great Falls from July 26 to August 3, however, we also have the Big Sky State Fair in Bozeman and the Montana Fair in Billings. Not to mention that there is the Western Montana Fair in Missoula.
Add to that the fact that there are all kinds of local and county fairs, and you have a pretty impressive selection.
Of course, for many the great attraction is the food. People wait all year to go buy their favorite fair food, and while every region of the country is different, here are the top 5 fair foods according to Montanans.
