School’s out for the summer, but before sending youngsters outdoors, it’s time to recognize the achievements of middle school and elementary school students in and out of the water.
A week ago, on Lake Sam Rayburn in Jasper, Texas, Louisiana high school bass anglers claimed seven of the 13 open spots for the Bassmaster High School National Championship scheduled for early August on Lake Chickamauga in Tennessee.
The tallest among the seven was the Assumption High team of Ridge Mabile and Evan Aucoinfollowed by a tie for third place between St. Amant High’s Cade Fontenot and Jerry Rouyea and Justin Blaise and low opportunity from Glenmora High School.
Sulfur peaks Bryce Youngbloodfishing alone, she took sixth place.
Then it came Brady Talbot and hunter king from Live Oak High in ninth place, then the Sulfur team Kade Ellender and Caden Doucet in 12th place, and the Catholic High team of Porter Morrison and Bryan Morgan at 13.
Louisiana Youth BASS Nation youth anglers also returned home automatically qualified for the national tournament.
Cole Watkins and Lucas Delaneycompeting in the Denham Springs Junior Southwest Bassmasters, finished second in the large field, followed by the sixth-place team from Landon Grabert and James Boquete by Houma Christian.
The ninth and tenth places were for the captures of Max Daniel and Carter Oufnac from Parkview Baptist and the Vermilion Junior duo Sawyer Knickerbocker and Conner Tate.
Thats not all
After a series of late winter and spring tournaments, the Denham Springs High student team Caleb Roblin and Jordan Sibley were named Anglers of the Year in the Louisiana Youth BASS Nation series.
That came after Roblin and Sibley won the Louisiana state tournament.
“It’s the first time a team has won the state tournament and been named angler of the year.” Jim Breaux saying. Breaux and Gene Hoover I started the series 10 years ago and I have dedicated these years to growing the competition.
A quick look shows that the two-tournament series, each in the North, East and West divisions, attracted more than 160 teams to each event and then added between 30 and 50 youth teams to each day in state waters.
Picou Springs and Jaxon Plaisancewho attend Central Catholic in Morgan City, earned their second consecutive Angler of the Year honor in the Junior Division.

With the registration deadline set for May 31, anglers ages 4 to 15 are participating in the Youth Fishing Rodeo scheduled for June 8 at the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge.
It will be held at the Jim Schmidt Boardwalk Trailhead fishing access site at Exit 11 of I-59 North in Pearl River.
Kids can line the banks of the shelter’s fishing pond for a chance to win prizes. Fishing runs from 7:30-11am and all youth must be able to hold their own fishing rod/pol and must be accompanied by an adult.
All registered children will receive bait and lunch for the whole family, and the youngest ones will be able to borrow prepared fishing rods.
The fee is $10 per child. You can borrow or bring your own stick.

Carolina Gallagher is a success after she hit targets with a score of 282 to win the Girls’ Elementary School Target Division at the National Schools Archery Program’s Western National Championships held in Utah on late 26-27 April.
Gallagher attends Benton Middle School, where she placed second overall in the team competition.
He received instruction and qualification in the Louisiana Schools Archery Program, administered by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and sponsored by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation.
Benton Intermediate claimed another title when Paxton Cassel obtained a score of 275 in the men’s 3D tournament, and the Airline High Jack Wilwert took home a third title after scoring 289 to win the Centershot 3D Tournament.
JI Barron Sr. Elementary added to the haul by placing first in the Centershot 3D tournament.
