Firefighters were able to save most of the dogs from the early morning fire, but some did not survive, authorities say.
PHOENIX — Several dogs are alive this morning thanks to Phoenix firefighters, authorities said.
Phoenix firefighters responded to a home near 24th and Van Buren streets around 1 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a large amount of smoke and fire that was quickly spreading to nearby vehicles and homes, authorities said.
While extinguishing the fire, firefighters located several dogs and pulled them to safety using medical equipment designed specifically for dogs called Fido Bags. Some of the dogs died in the fire. Authorities did not say why dogs were in the building or if there were people in the building.
Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire before it spread to more homes and vehicles, officials said. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and no injuries have been reported.
