The rise and fall of Sparrows Point
Long before Baltimore’s recent devastating infrastructure disaster, the area used to be a bustling manufacturing site. Originally developed as a center for steel manufacturing, years later Bethlehem Steel acquired the factory and steel mill at what we now call Sparrows Point.

In recent years, former Bethlehem Steel employees have filed lawsuits against companies that supplied asbestos to the former shipyard, alleging exposure to them sick.
There’s a lot more to the story, too, including opening a greenhouse and facility in the Amazon in recent years. And it doesn’t end there.
