Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Director of Distribution Engineering. The main functions of this position are:
- Lead and manage distribution engineering staff responsible for handling business services related project requests initiated by client members. Business service management oversight includes initial client contact through project closure.
- Facilitate efficient management of NERC, CERP, PJM and PSC compliance, system software model updates and reporting functions.
- Ensure that the electrical distribution system has the capacity, flexibility and resilience necessary to reliably serve load growth for existing and future customers in a safe, cost-effective and efficient manner.
Desired applicant traits to be successful in this position include a positive attitude, initiative, confidence, a strong base of technical knowledge, ability to teach and technically train engineering personnel, self-starter, planning and organization, problem-solving ability, team building and technological leadership.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in science from an ABET-accredited engineering college or university in an electrical engineering discipline. An MD Professional Engineering license is preferred, or the ability to obtain such a license within one year through reciprocity from another state licensing board.
Candidates must have a minimum of ten years of progressive work experience in the engineering, construction, or operations department of an electrical utility company or equivalent engineering consulting firm. A working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), electrical utility system planning, engineering, construction, accounting procedures, and operating practices, along with a demonstrated working knowledge of related electrical utilities and MS Office. software applications.
The salary range for this position is $120,600 to $205,200. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 6% dollar-for-dollar 401k match and a 3% non-elective company match.
