The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission has been part of the Texas legislative process for more than 50 years, answering the question of whether or not a state agency is functioning properly.
“If the answer is yes, then Sunset recommends improvements to make the agency more efficient and effective,” said Senator Blanco. “If the answer is no, then Sunset recommends abolishing the agency or transferring its functions to another agency more suitable to fulfill its duties.”
Senator Blanco said that part of his evaluations in the next cycle will be health and human services and workforce developmenttwo major state agencies that consider population growth and the size of the Texas economy.
“Having a healthy and trained workforce are very important issues for Texas. It is part of our economic success,” said Senator Blanco. “Therefore, it will be extremely important to ensure that these agencies are working as planned so that Texas can continue to be the economic powerhouse that it is.”

“When you look at West Texas, we have unique communities, we have challenges, and we have some different perspectives, and that can often be overlooked in Austin,” said Senator Blanco. “West Texas will be well represented and will have a strong influence on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government.”
