Maryland — The Maryland Lottery has reported a week of major winnings across the state, with more than $29.3 million in prizes distributed and several top-tier winners.
The highlight of the week was a Multi-Match ticket purchased in Mount Airy that secured the jackpot prize of approximately $540,000, with a cash option valued at $290,000. Additionally, a scratch-off player in Salisbury claimed a hefty $150,000 prize.
During the week ending June 23, eight lottery participants each won $50,000. In total, 25 tickets valued at $10,000 or more were sold or cashed in during this period.
Lottery winners who have won prizes over $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claim Center in Baltimore, which is accessible only by scheduled appointments. For smaller wins, up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of the more than 400 locations participating in the Expanded Collection Authority Program (XCKeynoteUSA). Tickets up to $600 can be redeemed at all Maryland Lottery retailers.

- Afternoon crash shuts down traffic in Davisonville
DAVIDSONVILLE, MD – A serious accident involving an overturned truck caused an extended road closure in Davidsonville today. The Anne Arundel County Police Department announced that the incident occurred in the 1600 block of Rossback Road.

- Maryland couple among 1,300 killed in annual Hajj pilgrimage
BALTIMORE, MD – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the leading Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, has expressed its deep sorrow over the deaths of Maryland residents Alhaji Alieu Dausy and Haja Isatu Wurie. The couple tragically lost their lives due to extreme heat while performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
This year’s Hajj witnessed significant difficulties as temperatures soared at Islamic holy sites, leading to the deaths of more than 1,300 pilgrims, according to Saudi authorities. Saudi Health Minister Fahd bin Abdurrahman Al-Jajel reported that 83% of those who died were unauthorized pilgrims who endured long walks in the heat to participate in rituals in Mecca. He also noted that identification of the deceased was complicated by the lack of identification documents.
Kim Syuardi, CAIR Maryland Outreach Coordinator, stated, “To God we belong and to Him we return. We are heartbroken to learn of the untimely passing of Alhaji Alieu Dausy and Haja Isatu Wurie. Their dedication to their faith and their community was exemplary, and their loss is deeply felt by all who knew them.”
Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks also acknowledged the couple’s passing and their important contributions to the community. In a statement, she reflected on the transformative impact of Haja Isatu Wurie’s involvement in community organizations. “Their loss of her is profound and they will be deeply missed,” Ella Alsobrooks said.

- Juvenile charged with felony murder after attempted robbery in Woodbridge
WOODBRIDGE, VA – A 15-year-old man from Gaffney, South Carolina, has been arrested and charged with felony murder and additional crimes following a fatal incident at Misty Ridge Apartments in Woodbridge. The arrest occurred on June 23, in connection with the June 18 death of a 17-year-old boy from Spartanburg, South Carolina.
According to the investigation, the deceased, along with the defendant and potentially another individual, had planned to steal marijuana and money from an 18-year-old resident of the apartment complex. The group, from South Carolina, specifically targeted this location for the robbery.
On the night of the incident, the accused and the deceased attempted to contact the resident at the door of his apartment. When there was no response, the deceased attempted to force entry by breaking a window. The resident, who had been asleep, responded by firing his gun, fatally wounding the 17-year-old intruder. The defendant then fled the scene and fired shots into the apartment complex as he exited.
Virginia State Police, along with multiple law enforcement agencies in Virginia and South Carolina, assisted in the investigation, which led to the arrest of the juvenile without incident in the Fredericksburg area. During the investigation, two firearms were recovered.
The accused is currently being held in a Juvenile Detention Center, pending a hearing date. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing and involves multiple law enforcement agencies in two states.

According to Chesapeake Animal Services, scammers are contacting people who claim to have found their lost pets and claim that these animals require emergency surgery. Scammers then try to request payments over the phone.
Chesapeake Animal Services has clarified that they do not solicit payments in this manner and urges the public to be cautious. If you receive such a call, do not provide any payment information over the phone.
Residents who believe they may have been targeted by this scam are encouraged to report the incident to the Chesapeake Police Department at 757-382-6161. Sharing this information with neighbors and friends can help protect the community from falling victim to these fraudulent activities.
- Fatal stabbing in Queens: Man found dead on Jamaica Avenue
QUEENS, New York – A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday, June 22, when police were called to a scene of violence at 169-03 Jamaica Avenue, located within the 103rd Precinct. Authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:40 p.m. about a man who had been stabbed.
Upon arrival, police discovered Nurul Bhuiyan, a 40-year-old man of 174-53 128 Avenue, Queens, New York, unresponsive and unresponsive. Bhuiyan suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and shoulder. Emergency medical services (EMS) responded to the scene and declared Bhuiyan deceased.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with Bhuiyan’s death. The investigation into this violent act continues and local authorities are looking for clues that may help apprehend the perpetrator.
