For those traveling through Michigan this weekend, be on the lookout for construction-related traffic jams and road closures.
The Michigan Department of Transportation has more than 70 road closures scheduled from Friday, June 7 through Sunday, June 9. This is in addition to dozens of ongoing projects.
Some of the major closures happening this weekend include stretches of I-96 in Livingston and Wayne counties, US 131 in Kent County and I-94 in Calhoun County. There are also some closures on the way to the Upper Peninsula.
A handful of communities also have special events scheduled for this weekend, which will sometimes require full road closures. Counties with event-related closures include Calhoun (Michigan Avenue), Huron (M-142 and M-25), Saginaw (Main Street), Sanilac (M-90), Shiawassee (M-21), and Wayne (Jefferson and Michigan ). avenues).
Below are some of the important closings to consider this weekend. All projects depend on the weather. State officials remind drivers to slow down and follow posted signs in work zones.

US 131 in Kent County
One lane of the northbound highway will be closed this weekend from the Kent/Allegan county line and 76th Street. The closure is scheduled from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The same closure will apply weekdays next week between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
M-39 in Wayne County
Southfield Freeway (M-39) will have two lanes of northbound traffic closed between I-94 and M-153 beginning at 8 pm Friday. The two right lanes will be closed for construction in early July.
On the south side, the ramp to US 12 will be closed this weekend from 8 pm Friday to 5 am Monday. Drivers can follow the posted detour using the Rotunda Drive exit.
M-14 in Wayne County
Both directions of M-14 will be closed between I-275 and Sheldon Road, beginning at 8 pm Friday. The closure is expected to continue until 5 a.m. Monday and will include the entrance ramp from southbound I-275.
I-96 in Wayne County
The express lanes of westbound I-96 will be closed this weekend between Davison Avenue (M-8) and Outer Drive. Westbound ramps in the area will also be closed.
I-96 in Livingston County
Two lanes of westbound I-96 will be closed this weekend between D 19 and M-59. The closure begins at 8 pm on Friday and ends at 6 am on Monday.
Drivers will not be able to exit I-96 at Highland Road during the same period.
Most complete avenue
Both directions of Fuller Avenue will be completely closed for a week starting at 6 a.m. Friday. The work area is located between Michigan Street and the entrances to I-196. Drivers will be detoured via Michigan Street, College Avenue and Leonard Street.
I-94 in Calhoun County
A series of closures are scheduled to begin Sunday that will impact traffic on I-94 in Calhoun County. One lane of the westbound freeway will be closed between 29 Mile Road and 21 Mile Road each night from 7 pm to 6 am until July 3.
Exit ramps will also be affected overnight on M-99, 22 1/2 Mile Road, C Drive and 26 Mile Road, through June 22.
I-75 in Crawford County
If you are heading north on I-75, watch for a rolling single-lane closure between M-93 and County Road 612, near Hartwick Pines State Park. The left lane will remain closed until the fall.
Mackinac Bridge
Drivers heading to the Mackinac Bridge should be aware that the left lane of I-75 is closed between Hebron Townhall Road and US 31. The single-lane closure will continue through November.
Work on the bridge is expected to require another week of work due to previous weather delays. Once across the bridge, northbound I-75 will remain closed around US 2 for construction until June 24. Drivers will be detoured via exit 344A.
