This week’s dispatch
Let’s go to the cinema
We don’t hear much anymore, do we? If box office numbers are any indication, the answer is no.
But in 2017, moviegoers were reinvigorated by MoviePass, which allowed them to watch a movie a day for $10 a month. They appeared in droves, but it was too good to be true.
It didn’t take long for MoviePass to be ruined by two businessmen who ousted the company’s founders. This heartbreaking story is detailed in HBO’s latest documentary, “MoviePass, MovieCrash,” based on reporting from Business Insider.
Jason Guerrasio, whose research is the basis for the documentary, told me it’s more than a story about a business deal gone bad.
“It’s a redemption story about two entrepreneurs’ dreams of bringing much-needed innovation to the movie business,” Jason said.

Rich nap, poor nap
Sleep is one of the few things that all humans have in common. We all need rest (typically seven to nine hours for adults) to function properly. And yet, much of the country is running out of fuel.
Researchers have found that economic stress can affect people’s quality of sleep, with poor Americans sleeping the least. So while money may not buy happiness, it does seem to buy better sleep.
