A Louisiana boy was found safe and sound after being reported missing last week, along with something “birdy” in the child’s backpack.
“Story time!” the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Friday, May 31, post on its Facebook page.

“Hello friends, gather around for a wild little Friday morning tale,” the sheriff’s office said in the post.
That morning, “a young man decided to embark on an adventure, leaving home in search of a new life,” the office said. “Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there at some point in our youth.”
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for help after a child and a chicken that did not belong to that child were recently discovered in Louisiana.
A deputy quickly found the boy, whose name, age and location were not identified by the sheriff’s office, according to the post.

“But there was an unexpected twist,” he said. “Throughout the trip, hidden in the boy’s backpack, there was none other than a rooster!”
DREAM CITY JOINS CHAOS AS OUT OF CONTROL CHICKENS RUIN FAMILIES’ DAILY LIFE
“Yes, you read that right. Ole Foghorn was a little shaken but unharmed,” the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The name is a reference to the Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn.
The Facebook post included an image of a large chicken stuffed into a Pokémon-themed backpack.
While this story may have seemed funny to some people online, there was more, the post said.
“Now, here’s the kicker: the rooster didn’t belong to the boy, and we’re still wondering how exactly he ended up with it,” the office said.
“So, we have a little mystery on our hands and, well, a rooster,” the post read, adding emojis of a man shrugging and a rooster.

The office asked anyone with information about the rooster to contact them.
Meanwhile, the rooster seems to be doing well.
“Ole Foghorn,” the sheriff’s office said, is currently “locked up in the Witness Protection Program at Patterson Animal Control, but we assume he would prefer to come home where he belongs!”
The sheriff’s office nicknamed the bird Ole Foghorn, presumably after the Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn (shown above, center).
The post concluded with the hashtags “#LostAndFound,” “#RoosterMystery,” “#CommunityHelp,” “#AnyoneMissingARooster,” and “#WhatAFridayThisHasBeenAlready.”
The post was shared more than 250 times, with many people expressing their amusement at the absurdity of the situation and pointing out a key detail that the sheriff’s office had overlooked.

“The thing is, it’s not a rooster, it’s a chicken,” said one Facebook user, while others agreed.
Was it a rooster or chicken found in a Louisiana boy’s backpack? Either way, it was a bird.
“Someone call CPS, chicken protection service,” said another.

“And how do we know that the rooster and the boy weren’t in cahoots to go to a better life?” another Facebook user joked.
St. Mary Parish is located in southern Louisiana.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office told KeynoteUSA Digital via email that it was unsure if the chicken had been recovered over the weekend.
