Arkansas Business introduced the first 40 Under 40 class 30 years ago. Recently, when reviewing the list of that inaugural class, I was quite surprised at how prescient it was.
Just a few of the promising young people honored in 1994: Warren Stephens, George Makris, Madison Murphy and Hank Kelley.
Like I said, prophetic.
Just like that first class, our selection committee reviewed hundreds of nominations before settling on the 40 you’ll read about in the following pages.
We observe the achievements of these young people in their professions and in their communities; We analyze each nominee’s propensity to lead and do outstanding things.
We believe the group recognized today is poised to lead and have a notable impact on our state for decades to come.
They come from all over the state, from Little Rock and Fayetteville to Walnut Ridge and Mountain Pine.
This year’s class includes bankers, lawyers, small business owners, communications consultants, healthcare administrators, contractors, restaurateurs and doctors.
If you’d like to meet and hear from this year’s 40 Under 40, we’ll be hosting a special luncheon on June 11 in downtown Little Rock. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit arkansasbusiness.com/event/40/.
I have already had the privilege of speaking with many in this year’s class. They talked a lot about courage, determination and perseverance, about gratitude and giving back, about innovation and entrepreneurship.
It will be a pleasure to watch the impact this group has as they fulfill their ambitions and become the top business leaders of tomorrow.
As with that first class, I hope that in 30 years we will look back and see something similar.
We are in good hands.
