1. Should Caitlin Clark have been named to the US Olympic women’s basketball team?
John Letasky: Yeah. I can’t believe she wasn’t.
Jake Iverson: No. She’s not a top 12 player right now. Give it four more years.
Daniel Shepard: I think she needs to focus on being more consistent at the WNBA level before people get scared that she’s missing out on Olympic teams.
Víctor Flores: I almost answered yes. I then looked at the 12 players who were selected and compared their numbers to Clark’s. His fame is the only reason this has been a discussion.
Gavin Derkatch: Probably, but I don’t think people should be that worried about that. She will have the opportunity.
2. What is your favorite Montana summer high school all-star game?
People are also reading…
John Letasky: This year it was the Class B football game. The beauty of Red Lodge was great, but I also like the game in Billings. But next year let’s not have the Midland Round Table contests and the Sanctuary Game on the same night.
Jake Iverson: The 6-Man All-Star Game is a lot of fun, especially when it takes people to small places like Custer.
Daniel Shepard: There’s nothing better than slapping mosquitoes, dodging the rain and searching for a cell signal in the 6-man game at Highwood. Good people, great players, huge mistakes.
Victor Flores: I haven’t been to all of them and it’s been a while since I’ve been to one, but I enjoyed covering the Shrine Game.
Gavin Derkatch: Seeing the best players regardless of ranking at the Montana East-West Shrine Game is fantastic. Plus, it’s an amazing cause.
3. The 45th Anniversary Heart and Sole Run was Saturday in Billings. Have you ever participated in a road race?
John Letasky: No, I haven’t, but if I had to participate in one it would be Heart and Sole. However, this weekend was an all-star weekend!
Jake Iverson: I don’t like driving that long.
Daniel Shepard: I laughed out loud reading the question. I haven’t run since I had knee surgery in high school.
Victor Flores: I ran the Purple 5K and the Run Turkey Run when I lived in Billings. Both were fun, although I liked the first one (late April) better than the second (at Thanksgiving) solely because of the weather.
Gavin Derkatch: I haven’t participated in a race of any kind in many years, but I would like to run more.
4. Jerry West is dead. Can you think of a nicer sporting honor than having your silhouette as a league logo?
John Letasky: For a professional athlete, that’s great and I don’t know if it can be surpassed beyond possibly achieving folk legend status like Babe Ruth.
Jake Iverson: That they changed a rule because of how good you were. Like “tiger-proofing” golf courses, the MLB lowering the mound for Bob Gibson or George Mikan forces the NBA to widen the lane.
Daniel Shepard: It’s a great legacy to leave. I just hope the NBA never changes the logo.
Victor Flores: I’m not sure I can top Jake’s answer. Retiring a statue or your number would also be incredibly rewarding.
Gavin Derkatch: It’s a huge honor and, in my opinion, ‘The Logo’ is one of the coolest nicknames in all of sports.
5. What fair or amusement park attraction did you never get tired of as a child?
John Letasky: That’s a tough question. I remember liking bumper boats when I was younger, but as a kid I don’t remember that. When I was a teenager, I liked the Sea Dragon.
Jake Iverson: As a general rule, I try to never get on something that can be quickly disassembled with hand tools and easily transported.
Daniel Shepard: It’s not necessarily a specific trip, but my family went to Dollywood (Tennessee) almost every summer when I was a kid. I don’t like roller coasters, so I stuck with the rides that never left the ground.
Victor Flores: I could have spent my entire time at Disneyland riding Splash Mountain and left completely satisfied.
Gavin Derkatch: I was a fan of the big pirate ship that rocked back and forth. Talk about getting some air.
