BOISE, Idaho— THAT | A storm system approaching from the west Tuesday afternoon could bring strong to severe thunderstorms to eastern Oregon and southwestern and central Idaho on Tuesday.
In the Boise area, the Western Central Mountains and far northeastern Oregon, there is a marginal risk of some of those storms becoming severe, meaning they are capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts, brief but heavy downpours and hail up to 1 inch. in diameter.
Wind gusts of that magnitude can cause damage to outdoor features, fallen tree branches could cause power outages, and wind dust can dramatically reduce visibility.
While the threat of storms diminishes in lower elevations by evening, some overnight storms could continue to break out in the central mountains into the early morning hours of Wednesday.
WHEN | 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.: Widespread but scattered thunderstorms are possible and anticipated to develop over eastern Oregon, central Idaho, and southwestern Idaho.
Storms will be patchy in nature and could produce gusty winds, medium-sized hail and brief but heavy downpours.
Northwest winds will strengthen ahead and behind an afternoon cold front, with gusts up to 40 mph overnight and tomorrow.
Early Wednesday night: A few isolated storms may continue to appear in the central mountains before tapering off completely Wednesday morning.
