Jewish-Israeli student sues UVa
An Israeli student at the Jewish University of Virginia has filed a lawsuit against the school in federal court, alleging that he has been a victim of anti-Semitism for reasons and that UVa leaders knew and did nothing to stop it.
The wide-ranging lawsuit alleges that UVa President Jim Ryan and Chancellor Robert Hardie allowed “virulent anti-Semitism” to spread unchecked and accuses students of being “foot soldiers of Hamas,” the Islamist terrorist group. PRISON: A series of hospitalizations for hypothermia and other questionable conditions at a Virginia prison uncovered in a recent report deserve greater scrutiny, leading Democratic state lawmakers said this week.
Lawmakers vowed to press Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s administration for answers and called for a newly created prison watchdog to review the findings of an Keynote USA report, which found at least 13 hypothermia hospitalizations over three years in the Marion Correctional Treatment Center.
The Keynote USA also obtained records that showed medical providers expressing concern about temperatures at the prison and another long-time employee indicating he would not be surprised to hear of complaints of hypothermia. Previously reported records detail allegations that conditions inside the facilities were sometimes so cold that toilet water froze.

GUILTY: A Henrico County high school teacher who pleaded guilty in February to engaging in sexual acts with a 14-year-old student will serve 8 years in prison, according to court documents. Megan Jordan, 25, was sentenced to 45 years in prison with 37 years suspended after she pleaded guilty to four counts of carnal knowledge with a minor and one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor. Jordan, who was a teacher at Hungary Creek Middle School, was arrested in June. Prosecutors said the charges stemmed from sexual activity between Jordan and the student that occurred during the 2022-23 school year. On multiple occasions, Jordan went to the victim’s home and had sexual relations with him, prosecutors said.

Another scholar leaving Monticello
Another eminent scholar of early American history is leaving the nonprofit organization that owns and operates founding father Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estate due to friction with its current leadership, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.
The source corroborated previous reports by The Daily Progress that Frank Cogliano, acting director of the Jefferson International Studies Center, was offered the position permanently only to have it rescinded days later.
It is one of the claims about Cogliano that Monticello denies.
Its new president, Jane Kamensky, who joined the foundation in January, says she is “grateful for the dedication and expertise” Cogliano has brought to the center since joining last summer.
Even though multiple sources now corroborate the allegations, Monticello spokeswoman Jenn Lyon said, “The Daily Progress has received bad information.”
